Nathan Garlick
Starting colts is one of the most rewarding experiences for Nathan Garlick. Nathan has a passion for gently guiding a horse to accept and enjoy working with humans. He believes that if you build a solid foundation with the horse during the colt starting stage, you set the horse up for a lifetime of success. His goal is to allow the horse to feel confident, safe and secure around humans as this in turn allows the rider to be as safe as possible and to work nicely with the horse.
Nathan grew up in the city and so his education into horses was limited to pony rides at the show until he attended Dalby Ag College after he graduated high school. From then on though there was no stopping him from focusing all his energy on learning how to work with horses. Working and traveling throughout Queensland and learning from some of the country's best horsemen, helped build Nathan’s own foundation in horsemanship. After some time bareback riding in Canada, Nathan returned home to focus solely on horse training, which he does based from his home in the hot Far North Queensland.
Now his round yard days are spent with his 2 boys watching his every move from their sandpit at the base of the yard so he is used to working with an audience! Nathan has been successful in colt starting challenges previously; achieving champion of the Ron Wall Memorial Colt Starting Challenge and runner up of the 2024 MFSR Trainers Challenge. Nathan has also enjoyed numerous successes in campdrafting and stockman’s challenges.
Nathan enjoys demonstrating his skills and helping others to learn. He provides one on one lessons, colt starting clinics and horsemanship clinics for both kids and adults.
